Sailing To Success - an evening with Paralympic gold medallist Helena Lucas MBE

Thursday 26 September, 7.30pm

British sailing’s golden girl, Helena Lucas MBE made history claiming 2.4mR Paralympic gold at London 2012. She became the first ever female winner of the male dominated Paralympic class and Britain’s first ever Paralympic sailing gold medallist.

Four years later, Helena was the first athlete to be selected for Team GB in the Rio games. Lying in gold medal position going into the last race Helena picked up a plastic bag on her rudder which cost her two places and meant she had to settle for bronze.

Helena has won numerous medals at World Championships over her career and has been nominated by World Sailing for “sailor of the year” twice. She was awarded the MBE in 2013 for her services to sailing. Helena has a unique story to tell, having competed in both Olympic and Paralympic classes.
