Co-Curricular and Holiday Activities

Co-Curricular and Holiday Activities
in Preschool, Pre-Prep & Prep

We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities to ensure that children make the most of their time at St Swithun’s.

Co-curricular Activities

We strongly believe that by offering a breadth of opportunities, we help to develop resilience, fearlessness and self-confidence - characteristics that are of great value to our pupils.

These activities run from 4.00pm-6.00pm throughout the week and change termly. Typically they include; gymnastics, netball, rounders, swimming, tennis, dance, judo, rugby, sailing, scuba diving, dissection, gardening, art, calligraphy, cookery, touch typing and music theatre workshop.

An example of our co-curricular programme is here. We are currently running a reduced programme.

Community Activities

We place great importance on pupils becoming involved in the local community and gaining an understanding of life outside the school gates. Throughout the school year, we raise both awareness of and funds for a number of charities and the children are encouraged to take the initiative. Year 6 girls make presentations to the rest of the school on charities of their choice. We also participate in national fundraising events such as Red Nose Day, Jeans for Genes Day and Wear it Pink Day.

Competitive Sports Training Opportunities

Inter-school team sports

In year 3 to year 6, all girls play interschool matches in netball and rounders. Tournaments and athletics competitions are open to accomplished sportswomen and selection takes place during curriculum lessons and in after school clubs.

Swimming squads

Each term, all girls in year 3 to year 6 are timed during curriculum swimming and the quickest nine from each year group are invited to swim squad training. There are a number of inter-school swimming galas throughout the school year.

Talented sportswomen

Many of our talented sportswoman train with external clubs. Swimmers trial with Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club and our athletes join Winchester & District Athletics club. Swan netball, Weston Park Blades and Pass and Play are recommended to our more accomplished netball players.

Co-curricular Sports

We offer co-curricular sporting opportunities suitable for all levels. There is a lunchtime running club, gymnastics training and group tennis sessions. All sports are led by a specialist coach.
