Co-Curricular | Senior | St Swithun’s School, Winchester

Discover the range of co-curricular activities and activity programmes that are available to seniors at St Swithun’s School.

Weekly Co-Curricular Programme

In addition to music, drama and sports activities the school’s regular after-school programme includes drop-in sessions and societies across a varied range of subjects such as biology, maths, chemistry, linguistics and debating. Golf, archery, karate and fencing are part of the weekly sporting programme as well as the opportunity to take part in training with Winchester and District Athletics Club.

We run three choirs, five rock bands and three orchestras and instrument ensemble groups which reflect the girls’ interests at the time. Pupils commit to an after-school activity for one term. Form tutors help to ensure that the girls have a good balance of co-curricular activities and that they honour any priority sport, music or drama activities for which they are required.

Weekend Activity Programme for Boarders

At St Swithun's, weekends are filled with a diverse range of cultural, social, and recreational activities to cater the interests for every boarder. The program offers a mix of ‘downtime’ and new experiences, with activities varying each week, such as rock-climbing, mountain biking, London visits, art workshops, golf, movie nights, and social events with local schools.

Our Weekend and Co-Curricular Activities Booklet is below:

With two to three activities on Friday evenings and seven to ten options on Saturday and Sunday, each weekend is unique and provides numerous opportunities to try new things.

Academic Enrichment

Through our Academic enrichment programme, students explore academic ideas beyond the curriculum. It is an opportunity to engage and participate in academic research, develop critical and creative thinking and skills, and build intellectual confidence

Every week we run academic lunches for all senior school students, run either by an impressive collection of guests speakers, academic visitors or by our own students.

Enterprise

Enterprise at St Swithun’s empowers girls of all ages to think creatively, take initiative and develop real-world business skills through a vibrant programme of activities.

The weekly Enterprise Club encourages entrepreneurial thinking across the school, while national competitions such as Tycoon Enterprise and the Micro-Tyco Sustainability Challenge allow students to gain hands-on experience launching their own ventures. This year, three teams entered Tycoon, with successes such as KAT’s sippy cups and stickers, which made a healthy profit and donated 40% to charity.

In the Micro-Tyco Challenge, a sixth form team reached the national finals with an ambitious inhaler design targeting the effects of smoking, impressing judges with their innovation and professionalism.

Younger year groups also engage through dynamic Enterprise Days, where students design, pitch and market business ideas—from eco-friendly toys to social enterprises supporting women in rural India. Across all age groups, girls learn to work collaboratively, solve problems creatively, and see how enterprise can make a meaningful impact on both society and the environment.
