St Swithun’s School is situated on an extensive and attractive campus on the eastern fringes of Winchester, Hampshire - the historic ancient capital of England. |
Our boarders can escape the pressure of a daily commute, complete their study and extra-curricular commitments at school and still have time to easily enjoy the history and vibrant activity of Winchester via a short walk down the hill or a five minute drive. Alternatively, they can enjoy the Hampshire countryside with the school itself sat on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
The 45 acre school site offers inspiring views over the countryside but is only an hour away from London by train with four trains running per hour up to London Waterloo. We are easily accessible by car via the M3 or A34 and are only a short drive from a number of international airports including London Heathrow - the UK’s largest airport.
Weekly boarders can benefit from the school’s own weekend London coach service which travels up to London on Friday afternoons and back down to St Swithun’s on Sunday evenings.
Weekend Activities
At St Swithun’s we offer a full and varied programme of cultural, social and recreational activities at the weekends to suit all of our boarders, which we believe will broaden their experience. We believe that the weekend is a time when girls should have the opportunity to take some ‘downtime’, to try out new experiences, to learn how to organise their time appropriately and effectively, and to get to know girls of different ages and backgrounds.
Our aim is to provide an appropriate balance of constructive activities and relaxation within a home from home environment.
The weekend activity programme is open to all boarders, free of charge. Day girls will be charged for any activity they wish to sign up for at the weekend. We welcome feedback from the girls about the trips they go on and we are always interested in suggestions for future trips.
History
Winchester’s history is everywhere—from the Cathedral and Great Hall to quiet medieval streets and King Alfred’s statue. International students can gain a deeper understanding of British culture through Winchester’s rich history.
Countryside greenery
There’s no shortage of fresh air and open space. Students can enjoy scenic running routes and walking trails around the nearby countryside and city. St Swithun’s also offers a wide range of sporting co-curriculars from netball and lacrosse to athletics and horse riding, so girls can stay active and engaged both on and off our site.
Recreational
The High Street has a mix of well-known shops and boutiques, plus plenty of cafés and bakeries where girls can grab a treat or meet friends. A short drive away is the New Forest national park and during the summer term boarders enjoy visiting the water park here, as well as visiting West Wittering beach on the coast.
