“The Bramston Bursary Foundation is dedicated to helping young girls who are at risk of going into care, who may already be trying to cope with the instability of a life in care, or who are dealing with other multiple challenging issues in their critically under-resourced communities. By offering fully funded boarding places at St Swithun’s School, we can provide stability, security, opportunity, and a family of inspiring positive role models - simply life changing.”
The Bramston Bursary Foundation (BBF) is committed to fundraising enough support to provide recipients with 110% bursaries, covering all school fees and an additional 10% allowance for expenses such as school trips, uniform, extra-curricular activities and music lessons.
Our ambition is to add two new bursary recipients annually. To achieve this currently, the school matches every £1 donated.
However, the school’s matched funding is not sustainable long-term. Fundraised support must grow to enable the BBF to be able to cover the cost of the programme. These bursaries play a vital role in fostering a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community at St Swithun's, and we need your urgent support to ensure we can continue to provide them.
Our video shares insights from both our beneficiaries and some of our parent supporters, about why we are so fiercely proud of this programme.
Other ways you can donate
All members commit to donate a minimum regular gift of £18.84 every month, quarter, or just once a year, to commemorate the school’s founding year and Anna Bramston’s vision of a school that provides education for all girls from any background.
If your child receives a scholarship, donating this back to the Bramston Bursary Foundation to help a bursary recipient provides steady relied upon income each term, which we truly appreciate.
All donations are matched by the school, so every £1 you donate will be doubled and if we have a gift aid declaration from you, we can also claim an additional quarter of the value from HMRC. If you are interested in donating your scholarship please get in touch with Kate Lewis via [email protected] or on 01962 835734

St Swithun’s Way Challenge
To raise money for the Bramston Bursary Foundation, headmistress Jane Gandee took on the epic challenge of a 33 mile run along the St Swithun’s Way from Farnham to Winchester on Sunday 22 September 2019.
Pupils, siblings, Old Girls, current and former parents, family, friends and local businesses all took part, either joining the 33 mile route, or the 18, nine and three mile options to run or walk.
Here are some highlights.
For continually updated information about events, please visit our online network for Old Girls, parents and former staff here.
When the time comes for your daughter(s) to graduate from St Swithun’s and move on to the next chapter in their lives, you may wish to acknowledge the difference St Swithun’s has made to their life by donating to the Bramston Bursary Foundation. You will be helping to give another girl the chance to benefit from all the school has to offer, whose family circumstances mean that this would otherwise be impossible.
You could consider donating the deposit you paid to secure your daughter's time at the school?
Often, it is not until years after you left school that you have the chance to look back and realise what a huge impact your early education has had on your life. As an Old Girl of St Swithun’s, you can help give more girls the same chance you had by making a donation to The Bramston Bursary Foundation.

After you have taken care of loved ones, you may wish to consider leaving a gift to The Bramston Bursary Foundation in your Will. As a charitable legacy, it will be deducted from your estate before the amount of inheritance tax is calculated.
An estate can pay Inheritance Tax at a reduced rate of 36% on some assets if you leave 10% or more of the ‘net value’ to charity in your will. For more information visit https://www.gov.uk/inheritance-tax
If you decide to leave a legacy to St Swithun’s School, whether it is your wish to support the Bramston Bursary Foundation, or perhaps a department in the school that is close to your heart, we would be very grateful if you would let us know. You do not need to provide the details of the legacy if you do not wish to, nor is the pledge in any way binding. It is simply a statement of your present intention – and we would just like to say thank you.
The school has an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and a SWIFT code for international donations. If you would like to discuss making a contribution to the Bramston Bursary Foundation, please contact Kate Lewis, Director of development and alumnae relations on (+44) 1962 835734.
