“The Bramston Bursary Foundation is dedicated to helping young girls who are at risk of going into care, who may already be trying to cope with the instability of a life in care, or who are dealing with other multiple challenging issues in their critically under-resourced communities. By offering fully funded boarding places at St Swithun’s School, we can provide stability, security, opportunity, and a family of inspiring positive role models - simply life changing.”
Jane Gandee
Headmistress
The Bramston Bursary Foundation (BBF) is committed to fundraising enough support to provide recipients with 110% bursaries, covering all school fees and an additional 10% allowance for expenses such as school trips, uniform, extra-curricular activities and music lessons.
Our ambition is to add two new bursary recipients annually. To achieve this currently, the school matches every £1 donated.
However, the school’s matched funding is not sustainable long-term. Fundraised support must grow to enable the BBF to be able to cover the cost of the programme. These bursaries play a vital role in fostering a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community at St Swithun's, and we need your urgent support to ensure we can continue to provide them.
Our video shares insights from both our beneficiaries and some of our parent supporters, about why we are so fiercely proud of this programme.
Other ways you can donate
All members commit to donate a minimum regular gift of £18.84 every month, quarter, or just once a year, to commemorate the school’s founding year and Anna Bramston’s vision of a school that provides education for all girls from any background.
Scholarship donations
If your child receives a scholarship, donating this back to the Bramston Bursary Foundation to help a bursary recipient provides steady relied upon income each term, which we truly appreciate.
All donations are matched by the school, so every £1 you donate will be doubled and if we have a gift aid declaration from you, we can also claim an additional quarter of the value from HMRC. If you are interested in donating your scholarship please get in touch with Kate Lewis via [email protected] or on 01962 835734

We also welcome donations of time and expertise from individuals who would like to volunteer careers advice or participate in our regular professional guidance careers events, talks and interview evenings
Equally, we are open to discussing support for any area of the school that a donor or a family is interested in. From hardship bursaries to sports kit.
Leaving a gift to the school in your will is another impactful way to ensure that St Swithun’s evolves to provide the best all round education for young girls and women coming through its doors for years to come. Our 1884 Legacy Society is for those who’d like to pledge their support by letting us know of their intention to make a legacy gift, so that we can thank you and include you in an annual lunch.
