St Swithun’s students climb the hills of Winchester to raise over £50,000 |
Earlier this month, senior and prep students at St Swithun’s School set off around Winchester as they took on the St Swithun's Challenge to raise money for transformational bursaries.
They took part in a number of challenges including:
- Three Hills Challenge: 200 students, staff and parents took on the Three Hills Challenge, running or walking the 13km hilly route. Finishers sprinted, walked and even cartwheeled over the finish line, having enjoyed some of the beautiful countryside views on our doorstep.
- 1884 Kilomathon: 80 pupils completed the 1884 Kilomathon, accumulating kilometres by walking, running, swimming, cycling, rowing, dancing, completing sports skills circuits and playing tennis continuously for three hours to reach a target of 1884 kilometres (the school’s founding year). In the end, they comfortably achieved this, finishing on a total of 2034.
- Not to be outdone, all pupils in the Prep School took on physical challenges of their own, with a series of testing walks through the South Downs National Park, with an on-site circuit for those in the early years setting.
Through their efforts, the students collectively raised an impressive £27,153.
The following day the silent auction from the Bramston Foundation totalled £22,865, which means that the St Swithun’s community raised a fantastic £50,018 for transformational bursaries.

Named after Anna Bramston, the co-founder of St Swithun’s School who believed passionately that a good education should be accessible to girls from any background, the Bramston Foundation fundraises to provide boarding places for girls from disadvantaged circumstances or on the edge of needing UK social care, which means that every donation is supporting vulnerable young lives.
