Nestled within 45 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside, St Swithun’s Preschool offers a vibrant and nurturing environment where three and four-year-olds can explore, discover and grow in confidence.
Children move into Preschool at the start of the term following their third birthday. At this stage, they benefit from an environment, curriculum and learning experiences specifically designed to meet their developing needs and prepare them for a happy and successful transition into Reception.
Learning, growing and getting ready for Reception
Our Preschool curriculum goes beyond the core Early Years Foundation Stage requirements, combining child-led exploration with carefully planned, teacher-led experiences.
Children are encouraged to develop independence, resilience, confidence and a genuine love of learning, while building strong foundations in communication, early literacy and numeracy. We celebrate each child’s individuality, following their interests and natural curiosity while introducing new experiences that encourage them to question, investigate and discover.
A particular strength of Preschool is its connection with the wider St Swithun’s community. Children benefit from specialist teaching delivered by Prep School staff in areas including Music, PE and Investigators (Science), alongside weekly swimming lessons in the school pool. Outdoor learning is woven throughout their experience, with our extensive grounds giving children the freedom and space to explore the natural world.
These opportunities enrich the curriculum while helping children become increasingly confident, independent and familiar with the wider school environment.
A carefully supported transition
Moving into Preschool is an exciting step, and every transition is carefully planned by staff who know each child well. Through visits, familiarisation opportunities and close communication with families, we help children feel secure, confident and excited about their new environment.
Our experienced Preschool team works in partnership with parents throughout this journey, with daily conversations, regular updates through our online journal, parent meetings and annual written reports.
Together, Nursery and Preschool provide a clear and nurturing pathway through the early years, giving every child the support, experiences and strong foundations they need to flourish at St Swithun’s and beyond.
