War Requiem at Winchester Cathedral

Girls from Swithun Choir were invited to join boys from Winchester College Glee Club and quiristers to sing in a charity concert performance of Britten’s War Requiem in Winchester Cathedral on the 15th November.  The concert was raising money for Combat Stress, an organisation which assists military veterans who have complex mental health needs.

Ellie Fleming L6, Lottie Mitchell L6, Flora Johnston U5, Phoebe Johnstone U5, India Mackay U5, Amelia Rothman U5, Patricia Drummond M5, Sophie Fleming M5 and Olivia Wilson M5 joined Winchester Music Club and distinguished soloists soprano Claire Rutter, baritone Stephen Gadd and tenor Justin Lavender for the event.

Britten’s War Requiem was first performed 50 years ago, composed for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral following the destruction of the original during the infamous Luftwaffe raid on the city in November 1940.
