In early February the U11A netball team played in a tournament at Twyford.
The ten participating teams were split into two groups and played four matches each. In their first match, St Swithun’s played exceptionally well against Portsmouth Grammar School and narrowly lost 5-6. The girls then played Twyford. The first half saw St Swithun’s produce some good goal scoring opportunities and, with promising defending, kept the score close. In the second half, Twyford seemed to gather momentum and went ahead 8-4.
The third match saw St Swithun’s win 18-0 against Hordle Walhampton and in the final group match, which was against Prince’s Mead, the girls played brilliantly to win 11-3. To our delight the girls had played well enough to reach the semi-finals. In this they faced a very tall team from Westbourne House and just lost 4-6. In the third place play-off St Swithun’s played Durlston Court with the final score 2-3 in favour of the opposition.
All the girls must be congratulated on their excellent effort and teamwork, and be very proud that they reached the semi-finals in such a highly competitive tournament. Players of the match were Tallulah Jeffes, for her consistently high scoring, and to Freya Green who continued to play with maximum effort despite taking a heavy fall in the final match.
