On Saturday 17 November the U9A netball team played in a tournament at Twyford. The eight participating teams were split into two groups and played three matches each.
St Swithun’s first match against Sherborne House was incredibly close but St Swithun’s managed to nudge ahead and win 3-2. With no time to rest the girls were immediately back in action against the hosts Twyford. Despite a gallant effort, St Swithun’s lost this game to the eventual tournament winners.
After a much needed rest and snack break, the girls started their third match. This was to be St Swithun’s best match of the tournament. Playing against Portsmouth Grammar School the girls really gathered momentum and went ahead to win 7-0 in magnificent style.
To our jubilation we found ourselves runners-up of group 1 so fortunately had another two matches to play in the semi finals. We narrowly lost to Durlston Court and then also narrowly lost, 2-4, against Westbourne House in the 3rd place play-off.
The girls: Bea Watson, Iona Morley, Isabella Robertson, Amelia Bruce, Sianna Barling, Alice Claisse, Natasha Pillai and Alice Leather can be incredibly proud of themselves. To reach the semi-finals of this tournament, where the standard is always extremely high, was excellent. ‘Player of the Match’ badges were awarded to Isabella and Bea. Isabella, for her great accuracy in sending and receiving the ball throughout the tournament and Bea, for scoring so many of the goals as well as for bouncing back and continuing to play after she took a heavy fall.
