After the disappointment of last week’s swimming match being cancelled by Farleigh due to a sickness bug, St Swithun’s girls were very excited about their match against Godolphin. The excitement was increased by the fact that it was the first time we had swum against Godolphin and also the first time that Year 3’s points were going to count towards the total score.
St Swithun’s all swam incredibly well with Tallulah Jeffes, Evie Johnson, Eleanor Holmes and Olivia Busher winning all of their age-group races. The Year 5 girls also showed great strength with the B squad relay teams placed second ahead of Godolphin A squad. Although a huge team effort, with all of the B squad as well as the A squad putting in great performances, ‘Swimmer of the Match’ must be awarded to Olivia Busher. In the Year 3 freestyle relay the St Swithun’s team was trailing by almost quarter of a length with just one swimmer to go. As Olivia began her swim the gap looked impossible to fill. Unbelievably Olivia pulled up and then overtook the Godolphin swimmer in the final metre of the pool. The cheering and applause Olivia received from the crowd was incredible.
The final scores were:
1st St. Swithun’s ‘A’ Squad with 242 points
2nd Godolphin with 186 points and
3rd St. Swithun’s ‘B’ Squad with 129 points.
