The debating society chalked up a further success this term. Delphine Legat, Charlotte Jones and Rebeka Batty, all U5 travelled to St Mary’s College Southampton in November to participate in the ESU (English-Speaking Union) Public Speaking competition.
Delphine, the speaker, discussed the chosen topic: Teachers should be paid according to their students’ performance with enthusiasm, clarity and sophistication. Rebeka, as questioner, interrogated the opposition so successfully that her performance was awarded the prize for ‘best in role’. Charlotte, as chairperson, introduced and concluded proceedings with confidence and authority.
This display of skill has taken the St Swithun’s team through to the next round of the competition which takes place in January.
