Pastoral – Boarding
The School offers weekly and full boarding and has a very active and happy boarding community. It offers comfortable and attractive accommodation and, just as important, a superb range of activities and events described in more detail on other pages of this site. Each boarding house is led by a member of the teaching staff who, as the housemistress, has her own accommodation within the boarding house. She is helped by an assistant housemistress, who also has her own accommodation in the house, and visiting house tutors who spend evenings in the house assisting the girls with their work and activities.
Le Roy is the purpose-built house for first year boarders and offers bright, spacious dormitories for small groups. After one year, girls transfer to one of 4 senior houses. Each of the Houses is well maintained and modern. Hillcroft has recently been built and High House, Hyde Abbey and Earlsdown have recently been refurbished. As well as the sleeping accommodation, all houses are fully equipped with common and activity rooms.
The Upper Sixth girls have their own boarding house (Finlay).
Many parents choose weekly boarding for their daughters. Girls may go home either after School on Friday afternoon or on Saturday morning, but are required to return by 8.00 pm on Sunday. Like day pupils, they are expected to attend on Saturdays and Sundays if they have commitments that may include Church Services, music recitals, sports matches and drama productions.
