20 girls from Years 3-6 competed in the Hampshire schools’ biathlon championships at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre on Saturday 22 September. It was the first time that many of the girls had swum in a ‘long course’ 50 metres pool and also the first time that Years 3 and 4 had entered the competition.The impressive turn out for the school resulted in some excellent results including 8 medal wins.
All the girls ran 500 metres and swam 50 metres extremely well. In the Year3 event St Swithun’s claimed the first four places: Olivia Busher 1st, Georgie Richards 2nd, Eleanor
Holmes 3rd and Mia Clark 4th. There were also very good performances by Amelia Tirado, Anna Morley and Agnes Bracey-Davis.
In the Year 4 event Iona Morley won both the run and swim she gained top position with Katie Baxter and Annabel Yeatman joint 2nd and Sophie Nicholson 5th. In the Year 5 event Anastasia Lawrence was 1st overall, with Evie Johnson 3rd.Jemima Kennett, Jenna Lowe, Olivia Bracey-Davis and Florence Goodhand achieved highly commendable results. In Year 6 Tallulah Jeffes, Lucy Herring and Alice Calder just missed out on medals but all recorded great personal best times.
