The School Structure – The Foundation Stage

When they arrive the children are very young and we cherish their right to a happy childhood. They are a long way from university entrance and a career path but we know that we have a crucial task in harnessing their curiosity and their capacities for exploration. Our aim, through a process of structured phases, is that by the time the children leave us they have acquired the essence of a desire to learn as well as the beginnings of the means to become independent students.

Foundation

Nursery and Reception classes provide a happy and secure environment where the children can make a smooth and natural transition from home to school. Within this setting the children can develop in confidence and in their ability to relate to and cooperate with other children and adults.

A wide variety of activities is provided, in order to encourage the children’s natural curiosity and to promote purposeful learning through play. The children gain in pre-reading skills, in letter formation, and in experience of numbers and shapes.

The balanced programme naturally includes music, drama, movement, painting and other creative activities to prepare the children for future learning.
