In early March Swithun Choir were joined by Orpheus Choir (comprised mainly of staff and parents) and the Orpheus Players to perform a programme of music celebrating two contemporary British composers: Edward Gregson and John Rutter. In addition the Chamber Choir also sang pieces from their recent performance in the Barbican Centre, London. The combined choirs, featuring nearly one hundred singers, performed the Gloria by Rutter during the second half, an exhilarating energetic piece accompanied by exuberant brass and percussion. The choirs sang with focus and energy and produced a rich variety of vocal timbres during the multi-movement work. Special congratulations should be given to the soloists on the night: Amy Butterworth, Annabelle Woosnam, Hattie Haines, Connie Freer-Smith (all U6) and Carrie Gothard L6.
