Date for debate

4 girls from M5 seized the opportunity of taking part in the recent ICYD (International Competition for Young Debaters) – The Oxford Union Schools’ Debating Competition held at the prestigious Oxford Union, home of international debating.
All participants from the 15 schools are under the age of 15 and the newly formed  St Swithun’s team stepped up to the challenge of discussing whether examinations should be scrapped, whether the environment should be the first priority of government, and the extent to which Britain still deserves the adjective ‘Great’ .
The girls expressed their views with admirable tenacity and courage and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
