Hayley Kwan and Natalie Aldridge, both L6, took part in a mock trial event organised by Blake Lapthorn, a prominent local law firm, and Solent EBP(Education Business Partnership) on 9th Nov to have a taste of being barristers in court. The case was called 'The Trial of the Etoile d’Or Disaster' and was written by lawyers in Blake Lapthorn, who guided the students throughout the court proceedings. Both students enjoyed being prosecution lawyers, which allowed them to collaborate with student interpreters, examine witnesses (played by staff from the firm) and present the closing statement. Despite short preparation time for forming questions and speeches, their team worked efficiently and came up with convincing arguments. Eventually they won the case.
They were also given a talk about ways to enter the legal profession and how to become a successful lawyer. It was a tiring day, but undoubtedly a rewarding experience for the aspiring lawyers.
