St Swithun’s girls have been involved in different events to highlight National Anti-Bullying Week (14th-18th November). Year 9 were invited to watch a performance from local Winchester theatre company Blue Apple Theatre. Blue Apple Theatre’s touring company, based at the Tower @Kings, are all performers with learning disabilities. The group performed a piece entitled ‘Living Without Fear’ which focuses on aspects of bullying, hate crime and fear encountered by a group of learning disabled adults as they start to embark on more independent lives.
At the end of the performance pupils were invited to pose questions to the group and also to community police officers about aspects of their work and encounters with bullying.
Head of PSHE at St Swithun’s Miss Jones along with other teachers Mrs Sanvoisin and Mrs Curry have been discussing anti-bullying issues in all their lessons and the Year 8 girls led an assembly highlighting the negative impact of gossip and how to avoid getting involved.
