For the Founders' Day Concert in the 125th anniversary celebrations, it was most appropriate that there were, give or take the odd girl, 125 participants in the performance. This concert fielded the most prestigious ensembles in the school's musical landscape, and there was an appropriately impressive audience to hear them.
"Strictly Strings" opened the concert with a lively performance of Bach's third Brandenburg Concerto. Other highlights included The Queen of Sheba's Farewell (from Handel's Solomon), the Ballet Suite from Delibes' Sylvia by the Symphony Orchestra, the Jazz Band and Concert Band in full flow and the Swithun Choir, performing two items from their current repertoire: Bruckner's Ave Maria and Schubert's The Lord is my Shepherd.
This was a fitting celebration and of course we hope it is a good augury for the next 125 years.
