Last week saw St Swithun's Junior School host its very first U9 Girls School Netball Festival.
The school welcomed four girls schools; Portsmouth High, Godolphin Prep, St Ives and St Gabriels to the new junior school for an afternoon of netball.
The festival gave the girls the opportunity to play a number of different schools in a non pressurised environment where the priority was on playing and enjoying netball and not on winning a trophy.
The event was also attended by Rhianne Mchale, formerly of Surrey Storm, the netball superleague champions. Rhianne was on hand to offer advice, pose for photos and hand out the Player of the Festival awards and the Endeavour prizes as selected by the visiting coaches.
Roger Marshall, director of sport said " This year we are hosting a number of sports events for girls schools, and this was our second event of the term. Earlier in the term we welcomed girls to our 'A' team swimming gala. Today's netball festival proved to be a fabulous event. Seeing the girls enjoying the netball, without the worry of the scoreboard, was wonderful and appreciated by the girls, their coaches and parents. We look forward to welcoming more schools to our next event in November when we will be staging an U8 Netball Festival as well as a Development Swimming Gala."
