During the week before half term the U4 took part in a local studies project. Throughout the week the girls visited three Winchester locations in order to complete a range of tasks, and to prove or disprove various hypotheses. Groups visited Winnall Moors Nature Reserve, St Catherine’s Hill and the Magdalen Hill Butterfly Reserve to collect data and have the chance to explore local sites of scientific and historical interest. Each visit also provided opportunities to try video and still photography, practise art skills and compose poetry ‘en plein air’. All the final work was presented at the end of the week to staff and parents in the school’s performing arts centre.
U4 also gained early experience of the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, which they will hopefully develop in the following years. They practised their orienteering skills and enjoyed a barbecue and team-building activities before camping overnight at St Swithun’s on the final night.
