The art department joined with textiles to offer a wonderful three days of activities for girls in U4. The events began with a trip to Roche Court Sculpture Park, on the theme of 'Origins' where staff led workshops and engaged the girls with discussions about contemporary art. Salisbury Museum provided a handling collection from Stonehenge, allowing girls to touch artefacts found around the mythical stones and make connections with the artworks they were discussing. On their return to school pupils were then led through a stimulating series of workshops, including willow weaving with Caroline Gregson and clay installations with Polly Perry.
In the textiles area girls worked with artist Sarah Payne, Mrs Giles and Mrs Curry to create beautiful landscape based quilts, whilst the art department staff (Miss Harris, Mrs Ross, Miss Wirdnam and Miss Wright) offered a range of different activities, all based on the landscape around school. U4 studied sewing techniques, fabric pictures, photography, drawing, plaster-casting and created sculpture creatures all in the space of 48 hours.
