Josie U5, Harriet and Natasha Smailes M5 and Alice Calder L5 took part in the ‘Activity Wales’ triathlon event at Port Eynon on the Gower Peninsula at the end of September to raise money for Allegra’s Ambition in memory of their school friend.
The girls went as part of a trip with five families many of whom knew Allegra well. There was an Olympic and a sprint distance triathlon. The girls took part in the sprint distance triathlon which was slightly shorter than a regular event. They completed a 400m sea swim out around some buoys, a 16km hilly bike ride followed by a 5km run along the beach and up the hill behind Port Eynon.
Josie and a family friend came joint 1st in the under 18 category with Alice Calder just behind in second place. Harriet and Natasha were 5th and 6th respectively in under 18s.
Josie said. ‘It was amazing….our first ever triathlon… I was so pleased we finished!’ All the girls are keen on doing another event.
Congratulations girls for raising a total of £2886 for Allegra’s Ambition
