St Swithun's first Talking about Classics
competition was held on 4 December. The competition asked girls in the L6
studying Classical subjects to prepare a 5-minute illustrated talk on any topic from the Classical world. Our visiting adjudicator was Dr Elizabeth Gloyn from Royal Holloway, University of London, and the girls spoke to an audience of their peers, teachers and parents. A delicious supper, including prize-giving, was enjoyed afterwards. Subjects covered included Pythagoras, the Titanomachy, the Archaeology of Troy, the Tomb of the Diver and Laocoon and his Sons. The winner was Ellie for her scholarly discussion of a passage of Ovid's Fasti, and runner up was Emily for her comparison of The Hunger Games with the ancient Roman arena.
