Sports day was another huge success; even the rain obliged and stayed away until the very last event. The morning began with the nursery children delighting their parents and grandparents with skilful hobby horse riding, collecting beanbags for their baskets and running races. The pre-prep children then took centre stage, participating in a variety of races and potted sports, all ably assisted by the Year 6 girls. In the afternoon the prep department competed for the house athletics cup in the large range of running, jumping and throwing events.
Woodpeckers won the house cup and seven new school records were achieved:
Joely (Owls) threw 16.73 metres in the Year 3 vortex;
Serenna (Owls) jumped 3.20 metres in the Year 3 long jump;
Hermione (Woodpeckers) jumped 3.53 metres in the Year 4 long jump and she also ran 9.13 seconds in the Year 4 50 metres hurdles;
Immy (Kingfishers) broke the Year 4 400 metres record;
Sofia (Robins) jumped 3.60 metres to a new Year 5 long jump record and
Zara (Robins) knocked 2 ½ seconds off the wheelchair slalom record.
Congratulations to everyone who took part; it was a fantastic day!
