The final of the school music competition was held in Harvey Hall last week. Representing their houses, a hundred girls from all years took part in the first round at the end of the autumn term and the final 15 girls performed in front of the rest of the school. Adjudicator, Amanda Truelove, professor of cello at the Royal Academy of Music and a member of the London Symphony Orchestra, gave positive feedback and words of encouragement to each finalist.
The standard was extremely high and each girl received fantastic support from the audience. The winners of the junior and intermediate category were Katie Harvey U4 (voice) and Georgia Onslow M5 (French horn). The advanced category and overall winner was Kimberley Tong U6 who won the competition with her stunning performance of Yellow after the Rain on the marimba. As well as receiving the trophy, Kimberley now has the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the school Symphony Orchestra in the Founders’ day concert. Caer Gwent took the prize for the house with the most points overall.
