School structure overview

Our school is divided into three sections:

  • The early years' foundation stage (EYFS), comprising the nursery and reception classes. Children are accepted into the nursery from the September following their third birthday;
  • Key stage 1, comprising of year 1 and year 2. The EYFS and key stage 1 together are called the pre-prep. Boys stay with us throughout the pre-prep, leaving when they are seven at the end of  year 2, by which time they are well prepared for the next stage in their education at local preparatory schools.
  • Key stage 2 or the prep department which comprises year 3, year 4, year 5 and year 6. Girls are 11 when they leave the junior school having been prepared for entrance examinations, including Common Entrance, to a variety of independent senior schools including St Swithun’s.

Throughout the junior school there are two classes in each year group which allows a maximum class size of 18.

The school day begins at 8.20am with registration and finishes at 4.00pm. Morning break is at 10.40am with drinks and snacks provided for the children and lunch is at 12.00pm, served in the spacious and recently refurbished dining room with a healthy menu provided by Sodexho, our school caterers.

We also run a Breakfast Club available from 7.30am and have a co-curricular activities’ programme and provide after-school care for children from 4.00pm until 6.00pm. In addition, children from year 3 upwards may attend supervised prep from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
