Scholars' performing strengths

The musical year began with a fantastic set of performances by this year’s music scholars and exhibitioners. There are currently twenty one girls in the school who hold these awards, in recognition of their musical talent, and they were well supported by their friends and family in Harvey Hall.

It was a particular pleasure to hear the new scholars and exhibitioners (Kumuthu Amaradasa L6, Chrissie Gregson L6, Rosanna Culver L5, Emma Paterson L5, Lucy Benton L4, Belinda Hung L6, Emily Johnstone L6, Connie Ng Chen L6, Denise Yuen L6 and Emma Pearce L4) perform for the first time. The musical programme was extremely varied with music from Telemann, Mozart, Beethoven and Gershwin, and the girls were asked to write a short description of their piece for inclusion in the concert programme.

Highlights of the concert included Edie Bailey’s (U5) moving performance of the first movement of Debussy’s 3rd Violin Sonata, Mia Stares’ (M5) expressive interpretation of Eglogue by Liszt, Connie’s brilliant playing of the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Sonata K309 and a hugely entertaining percussion duet played by Belinda and Denise.
