The October scholars and exhibitioner’s concert was my first experience playing solo as a new scholar. I had been anticipating this concert for weeks and it certainly did not disappoint. The evening was filled with music from players from L4 to U6 and all the performances were of an incredibly high standard. The players showcased music from a wide array of composers: Bach and Debussy to Rachmaninov and Handel. I was amazed by the confidence and gusto with which violinist Cherie Wong U6 played Scherzo-Tarantelle by Weiniawski. The overall level of confidence and focus of all musicians was inspiring; particularly when a rather large moth began to circle some players mid-piece. The concert was rounded off with an energetic and engaging performance from the duo of Agata Patyczek L6 and Lottie Mitchell U6 of Halvorsen’s arrangement of Handel’s Passacaglia for violin and cello. It was refreshing to see the two players not only smiling but visibly enjoying the music they were playing. The entire evening was a memorable experience. I look forward to many more concerts to come and I think I'd better get practising.
