Music Competition

100 girls took part in the school’s annual music competition which culminated this week with fifteen finalists performing in front of an audience of over 500 in the school’s performing arts centre.

The competition was judged by Edward Vanderspar, principal viola with the London Symphony Orchestra, who was impressed with the quality of all performances, imparting words of advice and encouragement to each finalist. The standard was extremely high with each participant receiving rapturous applause from the audience.

The advanced category and overall winner was Kumuthu Amaradasa who won the competition with an accomplished performance of the first movement of Horovitz’s Euphonium Concerto. As well as receiving the trophy, Kumuthu will now perform as a soloist with the St Swithun’s Symphony Orchestra in the school’s Founders’ day concert in May.

The winners of the junior and intermediate categories were Vivien Canadine playing trombone and singer Jess Lewis.
