Co-curricular scuba-diving at St Swithun’s is proving a popular option. The first nine girls who signed up completed their PADI open water diver course last weekend. The girls have been taking regular classes after school, first completing their theory exam followed by six sessions in St Swithun’s school pool and finally visiting Swanwick Lake for two days to carry out their final assessment over four open water dives. They all passed with flying colours.
Congratulations to Lilly Mann, Isabel Ford, Saffron Bowman, Freya Hutchings, Jess Greenwood, Abbie James, Lottie Sinclair Brown, Cynthia Wrobel
and Tallis Humphries.
Diving teacher Mr Alistair Baker said that the girls ‘were a delight to teach and a credit to the school. It is great to see the enthusiasm with which the girls have grasped the opportunity to learn to dive and it has been a pleasure to introduce them to the underwater world’.
Four more girls have also just completed the swimming pool sessions and will be in the lake in the warmer month of May and there is a new course of ten girls starting after half term. There is also a Discover Scuba Diving session in the school pool this coming Saturday for 14 girls to try diving for the first time as a fun activity.
