Saturday 8th June saw our annual competitive music festival, and this year the standard seemed higher than ever. We were delighted to welcome back as our adjudicator Jane Kane, who left our music department to head up a new string department at Cheam School, and she offered constructive and encouraging advice to all the children.
In the course of a day we heard almost a hundred performances. This, on top of the seventy performances before half term in the non-competitive section, the singing competition (congratulations Sophie Patterson and Alice Claisse) and the Rock Divas (won by Isabella Alexander for the junior prize and the amazing Rock Band for the senior prize), was a great indictment of the musical ability and enthusiasm of the children at St Swithun’s. And it is not over yet. We still look forward very much to the concert by the musicians in Years 1 and 2 on the last morning of term (to which parents are invited).
The winners are as follows:
Preliminary Solo: Rachel Chen (Piano) and Tegan Mathias (Violin)
Junior Piano Solo: Eva Mahony
Senior Piano Solo: Sophie Patterson
Junior Instrumental Solo: Sophie Nicholson (Flute) and Lulu Hepworth (Violin)
Senior Instrumental Solo: Fleur Barrett (Flute)
Recital Solo: Eleanor Holmes (Violin)
Championship Solo: Kate Wiseman (Flute)
