Congratulations to the eight St Swithun’s junior girls who qualified, from regional rounds, to compete in the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London on Saturday 5th April. The girls had to run 800 metres on a tarmac course in the Olympic Park and then swim 50 metres in the London Aquatics Centre. It was an amazing experience for the girls to compete in the pool where the 2012 Olympians had swum.
The under 11 girls: Anastasia Lawrence, Iona Morley, Evie Johnson and Jemima Kennett all produced fantastic results. Anastasia was 21st overall; Iona 31st (30th in the swim); Evie 40th (27th in the swim) and Jemima 60th. For the team event the points awarded to the first three girls from each school were added together and, it was with great delight, that we discovered St Swithun’s had finished in gold medal position.
Iona Morley also broke the school record in both the year five 800 metres run (with 2 minutes and 55.59 seconds) and the year five 50 metres freestyle (35.14 seconds).
The Under 10 girls: Annabel Yeatman, Katie Baxter and Mia Clark (Olivia Busher had also qualified for the finals but, due to illness, was unable to compete) ran and swam extremely well, finishing as a team in 14th place. Annabel was top individual finisher for St Swithun’s in 62nd place (45th in the run).
Well done girls: these results were a brilliant achievement, and a huge thank you to all the parents for their great support.
