Amelia Harper L6 competed at the Indoor Archery World Cup in Telford last weekend. Amelia, who only started archery as a co-curricular activity at St Swithun’s nine months ago, was competing in her first international level competition. She competed in the National Junior Indoor Championships in Coventry, her first competition, last year.
In the qualifying round, Amelia, who shoots in the Junior Ladies U18 Recurve category, finished 17th with a score of 393, which is a personal best.
This score gained her a place in the finals where she was then required to shoot in a head to head against the winner of the qualification rounds. They shot five ends of three arrows and the first to six points won the match. Amelia unfortunately lost at this stage but was extremely happy with how she performed. She said “The atmosphere was fantastic and I met and shot with some of the best archers in the world”.
