Impact on current bursary recipients

Blaise

“Receiving a bursary to attend St Swithun’s has meant that not only can I benefit from the inspiring education on offer here, but that I can also play a full part in school life and all that it entails.

As a result, I feel completely at home here and am treated no differently from any other pupil at school.
Studying at St Swithun’s allows me to aim higher academically; it also allows me to pursue musical interests, benefitting from top class tuition on all three of my instruments. This has resulted in me being selected for the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra as well as progressing through to grades 7 and 8 on three instruments. I have also sung in the school Chamber Choir which competed in the Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year.

Above all of this, however, is the impact that being a boarder at St Swithun’s has had on me. It has allowed me the time to make the most of all areas of school life and to form strong relationships with pupils and boarding staff who create such a special boarding environment. This has been the single most important factor in making me a more independent person, readying me for life at university and beyond.”

Agata - Graduate from the Bramston Bursary Scheme

“It is difficult to express fully the significant number of opportunities in every aspect of school life that I had during my time at St Swithun’s. Before arriving I had always felt constrained in what I could do. I felt that, as a girl in a co-ed school, there were certain expectations concerning the subjects and activities that I could opt for. It was also not seen as particularly ‘cool’ to do well at my old school.
At St Swithun’s, I could truly be whoever I wanted to be. The supportive atmosphere ensures that every success is recognised and celebrated. Being at St Swithun's taught me that nothing is out of reach and that I can become whoever I want to be. Receiving a Bramston Bursary has definitely affected my longer term goals as I have discovered a passion for medicine and music psychology which I am developing.

I am immensely grateful for all that St Swithun’s has offered me and the opportunities afforded to me here. Thank you”.
