Congratulations to Tallulah Jeffes, Alice Calder, Jessica Gordon, Evie Johnson, Anastasia Lawrence, Jemima Kennett, Madeleine Alexander and Olivia Bracey-Davis who competed in the IAPS swimming national finals at the K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley on Saturday 11th May.
All of the girls swam brilliantly in the 8 x 25 metres small schools’ freestyle relay to finish in 3rd place with a new school record of 2 minutes 14.2 seconds. Olivia Bracey-Davis is worthy of a special mention as she kindly agreed to replace Phoebe Shannon, just the evening before the race, as Phoebe was unwell.
Evie Johnson, Anastasia Lawrence, Jemima Kennett and Madeleine Alexander also qualified for the 10 and under freestyle relay. The girls were fifth in their heat and 11th overall in a new school record of 1 minute 9.14 seconds. Anastasia Lawrence also qualified to swim in the 10 and under 25 metres backstroke in which she finished 7th overall, and Evie Johnson was 8th in the 10 and under 25 metres butterfly final. To qualify for the national finals was extremely commendable as 217 schools had participated in the regional round involving over 3500 swimmers.
