The St Swithun’s Greenpower schools challenge race team took their vehicle Cobolt for a test drive at nearby Laverstoke Park Farm near Overton last Sunday.
The Greenpower schools electric car challenge requires students, guided by their teachers and an industry mentor, to design, build and then race an electric car. The cars are raced at major motor circuits around the UK in front of the general public.
Cobolt has been two years in development and performed very well on its first proper test outing. There are a few modifications to be made in the coming weeks but it was very encouraging to see how well it handled and gave the girls a first proper feel for driving.
The team is made up of the following girls:
Lydia Robinson M5
Georgina Penfold M5
Leonora Tomlinson M5
Tiffany Wong M5
Maggie Chen M5
Rebekah Kinchin L5
Zoe Tan L5
Hopefully most of the team will get the opportunity to drive during the four hour endurance race at Goodwood race track on Sunday 9th June.
The team is extremely grateful for the advice and help from fathers Nigel Robinson, Chris Gillard and former staff member Vaughan Clarke particularly in the latter stages of ‘getting the show on the road’.
