Six girls represented St Swithun’s in the finals of the Greenpower electric car race at the Goodwood Motor Circuit just before half term, having progressed through the qualifying rounds earlier in the year.
After arriving at the circuit and undergoing some final alterations, the St Swithun’s car Cobolt made good progress in the early stages until persistent rain and wind created challenging conditions, causing a connection to come loose and begin to burn through the insulation. Luckily a fire in the car was narrowly averted. Not long afterwards, the car needed to make an emergency pit stop for the crew to drill holes in the bottom of the car to let the rainwater drain out.
Thankfully the remaining three drivers were able to do their laps without further complications and Cobolt began to rise back up the results table once more. The team of Georgina Penfold U5, Lydia Robinson U5, Maggie Chen U5, Phailin Chanphian U5, Leonora Tomlinson U5 and Amy Dennison U4 finished in arespectable 24th place out of a total of 75 teams, managing to beat their previous record and completed 86.4 miles during the four hour race.
