On the last day of half term, we were fortunate to have a visit from current GB Hockey player Emily Maguire.
Our Sports Ambassador met her and gave her a tour of the school and facilities and enjoyed a chat with her, asking advice about Emily’s experience of balancing homework and sport at an early age.
The girls then enjoyed a hockey session, where they demonstrated great skill and competitiveness. Emily spoke with junior school sports director Roger Marshall about her training and what GB hockey call the VVB; Vision, Values and Behaviour. This struck a chord with Roger and what we are trying to achieve at St Swithun's Junior School, where the way we practice and play is just as important as winning matches.
Emily then just had enough time to meet some of our Year 6 girls, including an Oompa Loompa, before heading off to training herself.
It was a great morning and the girls and Roger really enjoyed meeting Emily.
We now look forward to our next visit as part of our Countdown to Rio, when the girls will meet GB gymnast Kelly Simms after half term.
