Sport

We aim to develop skills and enjoyment in a wide variety of physical activities because we believe that it is vital to balance academic and physical pursuits, so that the children gain confidence, self-discipline and learn the value of team spirit as well as benefiting their health.

Sport is enjoyed during the day and after school.  Gymnastics, dance, netball, unihoc, football, pop lacrosse and games skills are played in the winter with rounders, short tennis and athletics in the summer.  Swimming is taught to reception class and above, throughout the whole year.  Children have the opportunity to work towards various sports awards in recognition of their achievements, both within the curriculum and extra-curricular clubs.

All of the children in Y3 and above have the opportunity to participate in competitive netball, rounders and swimming matches in inter-house events, with the school teams also competing against other schools, for fun and for experience.  The children in pre-prep also have their own swimming gala to which parents are invited to watch.  We have strong competitive swimming and biathlon teams which regularly achieve success at national events.

There is a wide range of co-curricular activities for the children.  These include diving, gymnastics, netball, rounders, swimming, running, tennis, golf, judo, football and tag rugby.

St Swithun's Junior School is a member of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic 'Get Set network'.
