Sport

Our overarching aim at St Swithun’s is to provide sporting opportunities for all children at a level appropriate to their ability and in a range of activities.Through these activities we aim to instil and develop an enthusiasm for physical activity and raise achievement through sport focusing on wellbeing, leadership and attainment.

We recognise the value sport brings to a pupil’s wellbeing and development, physically, mentally, socially and morally. Pupils are encouraged to strive for high standards of performance, as well as high standards of commitment, behaviour, etiquette, sportsmanship and self-discipline.

In addition to our games, PE and swimming lessons once a week, we have a variety of lunchtime and afterschool clubs led by the school staff and outside coaches including scuba, tag rugby and street dance, and participate in house and interschool matches to further extend the opportunities for our girls.

The school curriculum includes tennis, football, netball, quicksticks hockey, pop lacrosse, cross country, gymnastics, rounders and athletics. The younger girls also focus on their locomotive and manipulate skills as well as decision making and tactical knowledge using simple invasion games.
