The vast array of St Swithun’s co-curricular and weekend activities kicked off last week with some new offerings such as bell ringing, ‘Bake off’ cookery club and philosothon. Popular regular clubs haven’t been forgotten such as scuba diving, rock group and trampolining, all still attracting a heavy following.
Greenpower club has grown in numbers this term and as ever there is always a lot to learn and tweak to try and knock vital seconds off the car’s lap times in the forthcoming electric car race heats.
This term the girls started their projects in earnest by continuing the build of their new car bodywork. This is a process of constructing a ply-board structure which is then filled with foam that will be covered with fibreglass to create the body shape. This structure is then ultimately used to create a mould for the final bodywork.
The club will take their existing car Cobolt to the Greenpower finals at Rockingham on 16th October, where they hope to improve on their excellent 37th place out of 68 cars last year.
