Congratulations to M5 pupil Coco Vulliamy Taylor who rode to victory on her pony, Bernwode Nairobi, at the prestigious British Eventing Horse Trials held at Munstead, Godalming at the end of March. This popular event attracts international as well as local riders and Coco found herself up against renowned three-day eventer Pippa Funnell. Pippa, who has achieved the three-day Grand Slam (consecutive wins at Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley) rode first in the 100 class and held the lead on her horse, Billy Bandit, for the first two hours with a score of 29, having gone double clear with no time penalties.
Almost all the competitors were riding horses, while Coco was riding Bernwode Nairobi, a 14.2 sports pony bred at the Bernwode Stud in Somerset, which had never won an event at 100cm before.
However, Coco and pony stole the lead from Funnell and posted a final score of 28.5 which was good enough to push the international rider into second place.
