pupil Abbie Baker
competed at the British Junior Elite Diving Championships in Leeds at the end of March. This is the top junior event in the diving calendar and is the selection event for the GB team attending the European Championships.
Abbie was diving in a higher age category for the first time. In the synchronised event Abbie and her partner finished 6th in the age 14-18 category. In the individual platform event Abbie finished 10th. Abbie dived some new dives including her first competitive dive from 10m, a back two and a half somersaults with half twist.
Abbie stays in this age group next year where she will aim to make the top six and hopefully secure a place on the GB team for the European Championships. She managed to score personal bests on the 1m and Highboard and attained scores allowing her to compete at this level next year.
Despite diving in a higher age group Abbie maintained a GB top ten ranking. Her next goal is to learn several new dives and achieve a qualifying score on Springboard to be invited to the British Senior Nationals in January 2014.
